Riding in Colorado
We took our bikes to Colorado.
Ft. Collins has wonderful paved bike trails making it very easy to get around on a bike. And there wasn’t much elevation change so that helped us adjust to the altitude. Ken and I rode three times. Tim even went with us once.
It was a good chance for me to get used to my new bike. While staying in Colorado Springs, Ken dropped me off at the north gate of the Air Force Academy. I thought it would be an easy ride down to the south gate. I was wrong. The combination of hills and altitude was really hard. I had to stop several times and even got off and walked once.
But then once I got past the cadet area, it was easy. I got a little nervous going so fast downhill that I had to brake. 35 mph is pretty fast for me. I didn’t want to end up in a pile by the side of the road.
I felt really good when it was over. It was a great test for the new bike. I do wonder if the granny gear on my old bike would have helped me up the hills…
