Connor’s Quilt

Apparently there is an unwritten rule that a gramma needs to make a quilt for the birth of each grandchild.

I didn’t know this rule until my sister, Carole, informed me. She’s had a lot more experience.

So when the news came that our first grandchild was on the way Carole asked me about the quilt I was going to make. I said, “What quilt?” I had only made one other quilt in my life and that was a multi year project.

He finally arrived on September 6.

Sherry loved the idea of a quilt. We visited a large fabric store and were quickly overwhelmed with all the choices. We always knew that anything for her family had to have some green but after that we didn’t really know. It didn’t help that we didn’t know he was a boy when we first went shopping.

After many hours we finally ended up with a nice combination that would work for a boy and by changing out a few of the fabric we also had an option for a girl. Green and brown were the colors that didn’t change.

I didn’t really know what I was doing. Sewing a quilt is much different than sewing clothes or curtains. The seams really need to be consistent and I learned a lot through the process. The finished quilt turned out well. I even finished it in June.
