What Happens When You Drop Your Laptop?
You don’t really think much about it. After all you’ve dropped it before. But then you realize that even though the computer will turn on it can’t find your hard drive.
Then you find that you can’t make anything work. Then you get a sinking feeling in your stomach when you start to realize how much you depend on the data you have on your computer. Then you call your mom.
This is what happened to my youngest last week. My first question was “Do you have anything backed up on your external hard drive?” The answer was yes, but only iTunes, no data. He was working on a paper and lost all of that information. He also lost all his financial records, old papers, essays for his summer internship applications, photos, and everything he had done in his first three years of college. While he can live without all of that, most of us would be devastated if we lost even our photos, let alone our financial records.
So right now go out and buy an external hard drive. We found a 500mb Seagate drive for $60.00 on sale. My friend in the computer business recommends Seagate and no larger than 500mb for the small external drives. Back up your documents and photos. Do it now. Then set a reminder to back up everything on a regular basis. Hard drives do not last forever. If you have really important data you don’t want to lose, get two backups and rotate them.
Do it for the ones you love.
