Mom’s Beef Stroganoff – Best Ever

This recipe from my mom was was I always wanted for my birthday dinner. We got to choose the menu for our birthday each year and this was my favorite.

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • Fresh Mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 lb sirloin steak, cut in 1/2 inch strips
  • Olive oil
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/8 t. Pepper
  • 1 t. Salt
  • 2 T flour
  • 1 cup beef bouillon
  • 1 T Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup sour cream

Sauté onions and garlic and mushrooms in olive oil. Remove from pan and set aside.

Coat steak in flour, salt and pepper. Brown meat using more olive oil if necessary. Remove meat and set aside with onions and mushrooms.

Mix 2 T flour with drippings. Add bouillon and Worcestershire sauce. Whisk until bottom of pan is clean. Cook until thickened on medium heat. Add sour cream and heat slowly until gravy simmers. Add meat, onions, mushrooms and heat a few minutes.

Serve over rice or noodles.

Note: This is my mom’s original recipe. My kids always liked extra sauce so I would double, triple or even quadruple the beef bouillon, sour cream and Worcestershire sauce depending on who was coming to dinner.
